Funnel Weaving

3D MODELLING/ CREATIVE PROCESS

DURATION

Sep 2020- Dec 2020

PROJECT INFO

Generative Design Process Term Work

TOOLS USED

Rhinoceros 3D,  Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign

Exploration

Over 8 weeks. I was able to explore weaving as as a self regulating system, exploring its structure in nature, and how it's been replicated by man through generative design. My goal for the end of this project was to create a unique form from the genetic recipe of weaving, using 3D Software like Rhino and Grasshopper.

Weaving

Two or more weak structures interwinding in a repetition, become one stronger structure that can produce radial shapes and forms.

Process

In the beginning of my project I explored different weaving methods found in nature becoming most fascinated with the Sydney funnel Web Spider. Through research, hand drawing, prototyping, and 3D rendering I was able to explore how I could push the limits of the woven structure.

Results

I was able to create a unique woven generative structure. Adapting my final woven form to real different environments pushing the possibilities of this design further into possible scaled creation.

What did I learn from this project as a designer?

When completing this 8 week exploration, I got to learn so much about generative design and the power of exploration. Through this process I was able to strengthen my  research, and 3D making skills. Becoming more proficient in Rhino and plug ins like Grasshopper and Kangaroo. As well as push my creative process by weekly deliverables and by making this final process book.
